Forget about everyone else -- Embrace YOU

In today’s society, it’s hard to be perfect when outlandish images of flawlessness are everywhere. Singers, actresses and even our favorite bloggers conveniently have everything that we don’t. So do a lot of people even in our innermost circles. Instead of embracing our flaws and appreciating the redeeming qualities we have, we compare and contrast ourselves with anyone who’s “better.”

Why? Why is it so hard to believe that we’re as talented and fabulous as the next person? And why should we let someone else deter our own progress? There’s nothing wrong with competition because it heightens our self-motivation. But when the comparison eats you up on the inside, it becomes a problem.

It’s no secret that many girls long to be desirable. We spend money on our hair, nails and clothes all of the time; there are billion-dollar industries dedicated to fashion and beauty. But what about the factors underneath the fabulous exterior? Confidence should stem from your most redeeming qualities—your ability to help others, your drive for success. I’m sure many Hollywood plastic surgeons would disagree, but beauty fades. Think about what will happen when your highlights fade, when you remove your foundation and if you gained a few pounds. Would you still have anything to be confident about?

Everyone doubts themselves! But there’s no reason to be insecure if you’re secure in knowing who you are.

“I will never be the  woman with the perfect hair who wears white and does not spill on it and chairs committees and writes thank you notes, and I can’t feel bad about that” Carrie said at the end of Sex and the City

Everything you’re not makes you unique. Embracing your flaws and appreciating the qualities that you do have will make life so much easier.

Fabulous Friendship

Today I decided to write about someone who let me know that I was an inspiration to them when in fact, they are truly an inspiration to me as well. There are those few people in life that you really feel like you’ve known your entire life and who knows every little detail about you and still loves you for you. It’s very hard to get close to someone because you want to find trust in them before you break down your walls. A special person makes you see that you are instantly a part of their life from now until forever. Those people don’t come around very often and when you do find someone like that, you want to hold on very tight and never let go of them.

If you can count on one of your hands with just one finger the best friends you have in your life, you are a lot luckier than most. To have even one best friend is an incredible thing. If you have more than that, that’s great too. I am so lucky to have a best friend who understands me. She is someone who sees the good in me and pushes me to follow my heart with any obstacle that may come my way. She has overcome many difficult obstacles in her own life and it has shown me how strong of a person she really is. She does not give up and finds positivity in negative situations. I already have two sisters and she feels like my third. She is beautiful inside and out and most importantly always makes me laugh. Life without laughter is a boring life and who wants that? We have taught each other that it’s ok to make a mistake and that no one is perfect, if you want something done you have to do it yourself, you can’t let others bring you down, and if there is something that you really want in life; it can be yours.

Now let’s think about what defines a best friend. Then think of your best friend/friends and see if they fall under those categories:

-Someone who is always there for you no matter what, not just when it’s convenient for them
-Someone who is an amazing listener, who sometimes doesn’t even need to say anything back but it felt like the best conversation in the world
-Someone who supports you with any decision that you make or path you may take
-Someone who makes you laugh and smile at all times
-Someone who is genuine and truly cares about you
-Someone who teaches you things about life that make you want to be a better person
-Someone you can confide in and you know that your secret is ALWAYS safe with them
-Someone who no matter what you are doing, if you’re together, it’s the best day ever

Each one applies to my best friend so I know I am very lucky to have her in my life. This is my wish for her: Comfort on difficult days, smiles when sadness intrudes, rainbows to follow the clouds, laughter to reach your lips, sunsets to warm your heart, hugs when spirits are low, beauty for your eyes to see, friendships to brighten your being, faith so that you can believe, confidence for when you doubt, courage to know yourself, patience to accept the truth, & love to complete your life.

Four Letters with a huge meaning (LOVE)

Being in love with someone completely changes your life. It’s a feeling that cannot be explained even if you try really really hard. There are not enough words in the world to describe the special bond that the two people have. I know about love because I have grown up surrounded with so much love and it is absolutely incredible. I feel so lucky to have such an amazing family who supports me with everything in life and is always there for me no matter what. They wouldn’t have me any other way. My family is very unique compared to other families. We truly are all best friends and we would all do absolutely anything for each other. Then to find a guy who thinks I’m the most beautiful girl in the world is the best feeling in the world. He prefers me with no makeup on and loves my hair curly even though I love straightening it. Everything that I see as a flaw in myself he sees as beautiful. I am far from perfect but I have never felt so happy and positive than I do with him around me. Of course physical attraction is very important when you’re with someone (and there’s lots of that goin on) but when you have much more than that; you know that it’s real. We have an amazing emotional connection and both have taught each other so many new things about life and about ourselves. We will always have eachother’s backs and no matter what we always tell each other the truth. There are no secrets in this relationship, and if something is wrong we communicate. Being in love is a unique experience that all humans should undergo. He is one of the only people outside of my family that has completely changed my life. I have gone through some very difficult times in the past, and he stuck by my side. He made me see that I can do anything I put my mind to and that I am a strong, smart, and passionate girl and the sky is the limit. I wish that one day every single person has someone like this in their life because he is my rock. I never imagined that my best friend would be a guy let alone my boyfriend of now almost four years. I cherish every single moment together and I am extremely excited to see what’s in store for us in the future. I still get butterflies in my tummy when I see him and hearing the words “I love you” will never ever get old.
